Click to play sisters '08
i just got back from the best sisters' weekend ever!  all 6 girls were there, plus my mom.  i weaned pace just in the nick of time, and was able to leave him home with loren and the other kids, so i was child-free for the first time ever!!!!!  i'm already waiting for next year's getaway......

recipe for an indian halloween costume

gretchen came to me with a plan for making myself an indian halloween costume.  here is what she proposed:
"first, you take some paper and cut it up. then put it in the oven for 4 hours.  with 8 cups of sugar on it.  then you take it out and let it sit for a while to let it get more prettier.  then you take some sprinkles and glitter and decorate it.  then you're done.  and if that doesn't work, just wear your pakistan outfit"
she even drew me a 'plan' of the procedure, with a detailed drawing of all the different steps.
anybody need a new halloween costume?

wright brothers' museum

it was rainy one of the days we were in the outer banks, so we went to the wright brothers' memorial and museum. it ended up being really fun and was a good break from the beach.

disclaimer

i feel like i have to write a small disclaimer before i move on.  i am not good at this!  do not expect fabulous or witty postings from me!  i feel like i am not fully in control of the blog yet--i'm sure i will accidently post random things, and that the things i do want to post will somehow be lost forever in outer computer space.  hopefully i will at least be able to keep you updated on the comings and goings of my little family, which is why i am doing this, i guess.  there.  that is all.  phew--no more pressure.

outer banks vacation--september 2008

a couple of weeks after loren got back from pakistan we went on vacation to the outer banks (we finally figured out what all those obx stickers mean).  we rented a fabulous beach house about 10 houses from the beach.  the kids stayed in a room with 2 sets of bunk beds, which was very exciting for them.  we went to the beach every day except one (it was raining so we went to the wright brothers' museum).  the beach house had a pool and a hot tub so after we were tired of the beach we'd head 'home', put pace in bed for a nap, and jump in the pool.  the kids were allowed one short dip in the hot tub each day.  (loren and i were allowed much longer dips).
