oh, and it's a boy

so, i realize i've been neglecting to share many important things on this blog. such as the sex of the new baby. IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!! (in case you missed the giveaway title of this post.) we are very excited about it. i just forgot to tell everyone, because after i found out i forgot that i didn't just use my telepathy to instantly beam this information around the world, and then it became old news to me, and life just moved on without me telling anyone. so, consider yourselves told. better late than never.

also, pace's birthday has come and gone without any mention whatsoever. he did have a birthday, and he did turn 3, and we do love him. here are some shots of him getting his new strider bike (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you are looking for a bike for your 2-5 year old). pace can zoom around like crazy on this thing.
he requested chocolate pie for his birthday. it's what i had on my birthday, and i guess he thought it was pretty great. he is not a big fan of cake. i love watching kids open their presents.
and here are some pictures of a trip the kids and i went on with another family. we headed to the beaches a few hours north of here to explore them before the oil spill ruins them. i had to type it small because i'm hoping it won't really happen and i didn't want to jinx it by writing it big.

we went to 3 different beaches while we were there--all totally different from each other, and different from the beaches down here. we looked for fossilized shark teeth at one (and tried not to think about non-fossilized shark teeth finding us instead. the water was not as clear as we are used to and there were largish fish swimming around our feet, so it was harder than you might think to keep our imaginations in check. i might have even screamed a few times myself.) our hotel was right on a beach, and also had a swimming pool, which was heavenly, even though it was so warm it was borderline hot tub temperature. to give you an idea of the water temperatures there, even the ocean was 87 degrees. which is VERY WARM for water. we also went to a white-sand beach. heaven. the kids found some really fun shells and we had a great time.

now we are busy (BUSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) getting ready to go on a 6-week long vacation that will take us (driving--ack!) all the way across the country to california (yosemite) and back. we leave this thursday. wish us luck! and if any of you are going to be in utah july 8th through the 15th let me know and maybe we can get together!

I looked very carefully at the picture and can't even detect a baby bump. Where is it? Those beaches looked amazing. Good luck on the car trip!

Pace is so cute on his strider. I am so excited that Mer and Jo got them too- I'm really hoping they can fit them in for Yosemite.
The beach trip looks so fun. I hope the oil stays away.
6 weeks!? Where else are you going? Or are you just stopping in various places on the way?

1. I'll be in Utah and would love to see you. Maybe we can squeeze in a family dinner or something.
2. We will just miss you at Yosemite. Our whole family will be there the week following you guys. (I will stop whining about the drive now that I realize how far you are coming.)
3. Another boy! How fun!

YEAH for another BOY! I've heard great things about those bikes. Did you go for the real one or the Wal-Mart one? Good luck on your trip. Yours makes mine seem so much easier! HAVE FUN (as long as your going all over the place, detour up to VA)!

Congratulations, I'm sure that Pace and his brother are just going to have a blast together. Good luck on your trip. I think someone mentioned that you are going to be in So Cal. I think I am going to miss you though, since I am driving on a cross country trip to New York. We'll high-five in Kansas or something!

I'm so excited it is a boy for Pace!!!! I remember talking about this when our kiddos were little that we would want them to have a sibling close in age so I know you are so excited! Hope you can squeeze me in while in Utah! We are only a couple hours from Yosemite, but won't be there when you go through so have fun! It is my favorite place on this earth to visit.

Oh, and glad you wrote small about the oil spill so maybe it will be minimal or stop one of these days. I am sick over how much damage that is doing.

Hooray for a brother for Pace! Peter will be so jealous. I'm so bummed we'll miss you in Utah. I have been wondering when you are going to be there. We are leaving here on July 12th but we won't get to Utah until around the 21st. What strategies are you planning for keeping your kids entertained, happy, and kind for your long days of driving? I have a few things planned, but I'm sure you have ideas I could use. :-)

would you please assign one of the girls to call me when I forget a birthday? It would be much appreciated. can't wait to see you.

I'm glad that my Lizza-birthday post served as a gentle reminder for you to do Pace's - I was beginning to wonder if you had just skipped his 3rd birthday altogether. He is such a cute little man on his green Strider - somehow he manages to make it look just like a motorcycle. I think I want that chocolate pie on my birthday! It's much more my taste than a butterfly cake.

Your beach vacation sounds (and looks) heavenly! I love all the ocean and pool pictures. My favorites are all the jumping in shots. And the handstands. And the picture of all the feet together.

Oh, how fabulous! I love visiting a blog and hearing such good news. You deserve to feel just a bit smug about giving Pace a brother!
