i am not a huge fan of wildlife (except for maybe dolphins from a distance and the cute owls i saw every day on the way to gretchy's preschool), but florida (i mean, south florida) is doing its best to give me a more loving and caring heart. i did take pity on this turtle that had wandered out of our canal behind our house and was searching for its home again. it was walking around in the street, and since i'm not fond of running/biking/walking past squished dead things, i decided i'd better help it find its way back to safety. i was not brave enough to actually pick it up (it could have been a deadly snapping turtle, right? even though i let pace touch it.....) so we put our pool net into action and plopped it into the wagon for the ride back to the canal. i think it should count as having a pet. don't you think?
(as usual, the pictures showed up all in the wrong order--the top picture is actually the climax of the story, where the turtle gets back to his canal, and the bottom picture is the first one, where we found the turtle, but oh well......)

Oh Laura,
I will have you know, that you got me to laugh- OUT LOUD while reading this post! I love that Pace was the exception when it came to being snapped, by the snapping turtle! Im glad you could help it find its way home, its hard to be lost. I am sure he was grateful.
you are so brave! i had to rescue a frog from our garage a few weeks ago, and i was not so brave. lots of screaming and jumping around (both by me and the frog - well, the frog didn't scream, but he jumped a lot). not a fan of wildlife trying to live at my house.
I love that you told Pace it was a nice turtle. I think letting your kids touch wildlife is at least as brave as touching it yourself. You know, when we found some unwanted wildlife in our yard we just killed it. You are a such a good environmentalist!
Hooray for video clips!! I just sat and watched it over and over again, because Pace is just so darn cute. I love how he was growling at it, and then asking if it would "get you".
And good job for rescuing it. It was very brave of you.
I am impressed! You managed to have pictures, video, and text all in one post. I tryed to accomplish that task, but failed miserably!
Glad you were so "brave" as to rescue the turtle. I deserved to go back to it's watery home.
As far as pets are concerned, I think webkins are your best bet :)
